The wood lot on the west of the property was used as a sugar bush and is still undeveloped today. The original location of the Baker house is shown on the map, but the building has been moved near the entrance of the wood lot. The Cober cemetery is circled in green and was the final resting place of many Baker families.

The closest major intersections are Bathurst St and Steeles Ave. Baker Sugar Bush Heritage Park is within walking distance from the property. Nearby are Starbucks and Aroowha Sushi & Sake Bar. The area is also home to many restaurants, including Levetto and Starbucks. If you’re looking to explore the area, you’ll be close to numerous parks, including Rumble Pond Park, Promenade Green Park, and Reptilia Zoo.

If you love gardening, consider growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers in the community gardens at Sugarbush Heritage Park. Each plot is about 8′ x 10′. You’ll need to bring your own tools and supplies, but you’re sure to make some friends while you’re there! These gardens are open to anyone, so feel free to bring your friends and family along. You don’t even have to live in Thornhill to participate!

The City of Vaughan runs several kinds of public gardens. There are several types of Allotment Gardens and Community Garden plots available to rent yearly. Sugarbush Heritage Park has 20 allotment plots. The city is planning to build an additional ten plots at this location. The park’s eastern wood lot on Bathurst has been transformed into a recreation area. Nearby are flood control ponds and a playground. The 1877 county atlas shows the Baker farm in green. Jonathon Baker Sr. and his son Jonathon Baker Jr. bought the land in 1816 and operated it until 1877. Bakers also began tapping a few trees for their own use, and continued to add new ones to the woodlot over the years.
